Meet the Characters: Liam
When Liam first appeared in Self Inflicted, he was never meant to be a main character. Of course, many times my writing develops a mind of its own, so when he became such an important part of Rory’s life, he was forced into the spotlight.
Military life became all he could focus on since losing his brother to cancer at the age of thirteen. He had promised his brother he would enlist, and it gave him something to focus on when he was grieving.
After spending years in a grief support group, he met Aurora and immediately fell in love.
Of course, Rory wasn’t looking for a relationship, so he settled on friendship. They became best friends while he sat back and watched her jump from relationship to relationship. Eventually, he found himself pushed into a relationship with Aislynn. Although he learns to love Aislynn, he can’t seem to let go of his feelings for Rory.
When Rory announces she is about to make the biggest mistake of her life, Liam has to confess his feelings.
Watching Rory marry Erik even after learning how Liam felt about her was one of the worst days of Liam’s life. It was even worse when she listened to his request to not contact him while he was deployed.
During his deployment, his days were torture without hearing from Rory. Was she still cutting herself through her pregnancy? No matter how many times Rory denied it, he suspected Erik had been hurting her. He just had no proof.
Eventually, Rory reached out, wanting Liam’s permission to name her and Erik’s son after Liam’s brother. He was thrilled to be part of her life again, even though she was still with Erik, and Liam was stuck in the middle of a warzone.
When Ash delivers the news that Rory is in the hospital, Liam pulls every string possible to get home. Even if it is just to say goodbye for good, he knows he has to see her.
Even if it’s only to say goodbye…
