Meet the Characters: Gabe
As a teenager, Gabriel Olson only cared about two things: hockey and girls. Hockey became his focus at a young age because it kept him away from the world of drugs that claimed his parents and younger brother. Girls, because well, they were there.
As captain of the varsity hockey team, girls were always throwing themselves at him, until he met Rachel.
The only girl to turn him down, Gabe became obsessed with her. She was everything he never wanted, but he couldn’t stay away. She couldn’t resist him for long.
When he graduated high school, he turned down a hockey scholarship so he could stay close to her while she finished high school. He enlisted in the Army Reserves and went to a community college so they could be together.
He was a senior in college the first time he was deployed. He hated every minute of it, but knowing Rachel was at home waiting for him was enough to get him through it.
After the deployment, he returned home to finish school. He became a physical trainer at a local gym and he volunteered his time to coach a peewee hockey team.
He was ready to propose to Rachel when he received the news of his second deployment.
He wasn’t so lucky the second time. A roadside bomb claimed his left leg and he landed in the hospital where he met Liam.
Rachel couldn’t take his injury and she ended the relationship in a letter.
Gabe threw himself into helping Liam. When Liam was released from the hospital, Rachel begged Gabe to move him, so he did.
Things were different. Rachel had changed. Gabe tried to ignore it until he found her cheating on him.
It broke Gabe’s heart. He slipped back into his old habits with a new girl in his bed almost every night.
Gabe was done with relationships.
