Writing Update
I have been so busy trying to get everything on this site back up and running that I haven’t been making any writing updates lately. I have a first draft of One of the Guys done. I need to edit. I need to work on a cover. I need to get ARCs available because I want to be able to release in December, before I get too busy with tax season. However, as soon as I finished One of the Guys, I had a brilliant idea for the next book, Dying to Fit In, so I have been scribbling out ideas for that. I have the prologue finished, and ideas…

Never Good Enough
I posted a cryptic message on Facebook the other day, and received a few messages about it, so I should probably elaborate. First of all, thanks for all the support! That is exactly what I am hoping to accomplish with my writing. Thank you for showing me that I am not alone! Yes, I had a bad day. Honestly, more than one bad day. I have never felt like more of a failure than the day my oldest son told me he would rather live with his father. His father, who is loosely who the character Erik is based on, is an abusive alcoholic. He has spent time in prison.…

Meet the Characters: Gabe
As a teenager, Gabriel Olson only cared about two things: hockey and girls. Hockey became his focus at a young age because it kept him away from the world of drugs that claimed his parents and younger brother. Girls, because well, they were there. As captain of the varsity hockey team, girls were always throwing themselves at him, until he met Rachel. The only girl to turn him down, Gabe became obsessed with her. She was everything he never wanted, but he couldn’t stay away. She couldn’t resist him for long. When he graduated high school, he turned down a hockey scholarship so he could stay close to her while…

Meet the Characters: Erik
Erik is the resident bad boy. Not the bad boy everyone loves, but a genuinely bad guy. I’m not even sure he deserves a dedicated page, yet here we are. After losing his mother at a young age, his father starts to abuse him. Eventually, he was kicked out of his house at an early age, but that was fine with Erik. He bounced from place to place for a few years, usually staying with a girlfriend, which is how he ends up living with Rory. Erik is abusive to Rory basically their entire relationship. He always feels bad and quickly apologizes for his actions, but he doesn’t change his…

Meet the Characters: Liam
When Liam first appeared in Self Inflicted, he was never meant to be a main character. Of course, many times my writing develops a mind of its own, so when he became such an important part of Rory’s life, he was forced into the spotlight. Military life became all he could focus on since losing his brother to cancer at the age of thirteen. He had promised his brother he would enlist, and it gave him something to focus on when he was grieving. After spending years in a grief support group, he met Aurora and immediately fell in love. Of course, Rory wasn’t looking for a relationship, so he…

Meet the Characters: Aurora
Aurora doesn’t really care what people think of her. She doesn’t bother to hide her tattoos or piercings. She is constantly changing her hair color. The only thing she hides is her scars. Her pain. Pain caused by losing her mother to cancer at a young age. Pain caused by her abusive relationship with Erik. Even pain caused by losing her best friend Liam. She turns to cutting herself to regain some control over her life, but what happens when the cutting does too far. What happens if it was possible that her self-harm hurts more than just her? Rory’s story begins in Self Inflicted, but it doesn’t end there.…

Meet the Characters: Marissa
I have to admit, when Marissa first appeared in my writing, she reminded me a lot of myself when I was younger. She is young, naive, and always tries to see the good in people. Until losing Chad. She was over-involved in school from a young age. Softball, volleyball, cheerleading, basketball, band, and choir filled up most of her time While it didn’t leave her much free time, it kept her from being expected to babysit. She made sure none of her activities extended into the summer, so she could always travel with her grandparents. It was during one of those summers she met Chad. While Summer Love Autumn Goodbye…

Out on the Ice
Jace hates himself. He hates living with his alcoholic, abusive father. He hates that he has to hide his scars from everyone, including his best friends. He hates the feelings he is beginning to develop for his friend. He hates the fact that he is gay. The realization that he has to hide his true feelings becomes even more apparent when his father finds out. The abuse gets worse. He can’t live with his secret anymore, but he can’t let people know either. Jace survives his suicide attempt but turns to cutting to cope. He is able to control his pain enough to go on, at least until his hockey…

A Glimpse Into My Life
I get asked all the time where I get the ideas from my books. Another question I hear quite often is, “Why are your books so dark?” The answer is simple: I get the ideas from my own life. I’ve had countless people in my life that have made the decision to end their lives. I have been the one left to suffer when they realized they don’t want to fight anymore. I have woken up to several messages, “__ killed/hung/shot himself last night.” I have been the person who stayed up all night talking to a friend I had fallen out of touch with because he posted a cryptic…

Time Heals
Life has been good for the last four years. Erik is in prison and unable to contact his ex-wife. Liam was back on his feet before he married Aurora and adopted Gavin. Aislynn and Trent are happy and have been able to make their long-distance relationship work. Maybe the nightmare is finally over. Aurora learns she is expecting another child. She and Liam are thrilled until they discover Erik still has a way to invade their lives. The damage caused by Erik’s abuse could have disastrous effects on both Aurora and the baby. Despite Liam’s arguments, Aurora refuses to even consider terminating the pregnancy, even knowing it could kill her.…
