My Life

Longest Week Ever

January is always a hard time for me.

Getting used to being back in the office all the time. Having to literally schedule every second of my day if I want to get anything done. No free time. No wrestling shows.

I hate January.

But this year was already insane. By Tuesday, the week already felt like it had drug on forever.

Then I had to take my oldest son back to the airport, which was hard enough.

I made the hour-and-a-half drive. Said goodbye. Turned around and went straight to an office. Not really because I needed to, but because I needed to stay busy. Shipping my kid off to his military life doesn’t get any easier no matter how many times I do it.

Then he starts messaging me.

His flight was delayed. Then it was canceled. It was rescheduled for the following morning.

Now, he is not 21, so he can’t just check into a hotel. Nope. He needs a ride home. So I make the trip to Milwaukee for the second time in one day.

He has to be back at the airport at 5 am. Which means we leave at about 3 (yes, I am ALWAYS early for everything). Good thing we left early because the weather sucked.

I offer to wait until he boards. He tells me no, I should come home and get some sleep since I didn’t the night before. I came home. Got the other kids off to school because my son messages again.

FAA had grounded all flights.

Seriously?

Thankfully, his plane did end up taking off 2 1/2 hours late, but he was able to make it back to Mississippi. I could finally get some sleep.

Until the offices started calling…

In a 15-hour period, I had spent 10 1/2 hours in a car. I was crabby. I was exhausted. But I will ALWAYS be there for my kids.
